Procedure followed in the consumer case:
1. Send a notice to defaulting party (although not compulsory).
2. Prepare a consumer complaint in the required format.
3. Submit the required number of copies of complaint to the registrar at the Consumer Court.
4. Note the complaint reference number given by the receiving clerk.
5. Receive your endorsed copy of the complaint as a proof of submission of complaint.
6. You will receive the hearing date by post if not given by the clerk at the time of submission.
7. Attend the hearing. Do not forget to carry all the documents concerned with the complaint.
8. In case the hearing is postponed, take the next hearing date from the clerk/registrar.
9. If an order is passed, and you are not satisfied with the order, you can file an appeal against the impugned judgment at the higher court.
10. If an order is passed and the Opposite Party has not complied the same, you can apply for summoning the Opposite Party.

There are no expenses like court fee or any other hidden charges. Even the cost of sending a notice to the concerned parties is borne by the court. Your expenses will incur on typing the case and making photocopies (Xerox) of all the documents, that's all.
Consumer courts have been set up to bring justice within the reach of common Indian citizen. There is no need to hire a lawyer as you can fight your case on your own.
